Hi,My name is Stelios Mattheou and I am the reason you are reading this text. Although I appreciate and admire Stamatis’ (the site’s designer) work and effort I wouldn’t have anyone else write the following but me!

The nick for starters comes from the acoustic familiarity it has with my name (Stelios – Style). In addition the word “style” with its meaning is something that’s been following and some times guiding me from my early years especially in the sense of one’s own style, his personality and the quest for authenticity. I added Mr. in front because it seemed to simple by it self; plus I don’t like the use of the initials DJ before my nick because I’m very clear with the fact that I am a person and music, as well as playing, is what I love not who I am.

I'm part Egyptian part Cypriot born in Athens on a hot August night, which I believe firmly is what determined my inclination for the summer and everything it goes with. My first contact with music was at the age of seven when I took piano lessons. Although they didn’t last long the got me a very good basis for what was to follow. At the age of twelve I witnessed my first dj set played by a friend of mine at a school party. That was it for me! Even until now nothing has caught my mind as quick and completely as djing. I immediately started arranging my own parties @ schools, universities, houses and anywhere else I managed to get into.

When I was 16 I moved from Athens to the beautiful island of Lesvos. A truly unique place; It took some time to find my self and others in a new place as well as finding a way to play music. The good thing was that school parties didn’t take place within school premises like in Athens but in night clubs. So when opportunity presented it self I seized it and played my first set in a club & in front of a live audience, part of which I’d never seen before in my life. Ok, it was quite the excruciating experience but to be honest I always feel like that in front of a new audience. Besides, it’s what gives me the edge I need to overcome anything that might be lurking in my mind and give to whoever is listening to me the spiritual blast off they need. It’s also that outcome I witness that gives me that feeling which is unlike any other. After two parties the owner of the club offered me the it’s residency. As you can imagine I accepted quicker than you can say bpm. That lasted a year and after that came cool summer vacation with me playing as a guest mostly at friendly decks or parties.

The next year I took my first break from djing. I tried various jobs as well as putting quite the necessary effort to finishing school. Though I didn’t play I never stopped listening. I finished school and traveled a bit, right after taking a rout around the island I live; Bulgaria, France, Andorra, Spain and of course my homelands where the places I visited. Through all this I spent a lot of time learning about music. I sat under people that taught me nothing about playing but all about listening to it. One of the most valuable information I gained was that you can’t “work” on other people’s ears if you haven’t learned to “work” on your own first. So I did. My early Dance and Mainstream influences where firstly enriched and later on cleared up by Soul, Jazz, Funk, Disco, Rock, Rock & Roll, world wide folk music and genres I can’t even recall. Generally what I needed to do is take it from the beginning and most importantly without wearing “colored glasses”, without prejudice or even a point of view. After returning to the island I caught up with any lose ends and started djing again and soon after I had this site up and running.

The season 06'-07' was quite a difficult one. A car accident among other things kept me from djing(and not just that). So on June 07 I left the island again, this time for good and moved to Cyprus. A very promising place and not just for Djing.

If you have any questions I can answer I’d be more than happy to. You will find means of communication around the site. So circulate yourselves and…..enjoy!

P.S.: Music can do things and take you to places you can’t even imagine. So what do you need drugs for?

Friends
